Some of the ones I've made. The first one is my regular woods walking stick. Made about 20-25 years ago, maple with poly finish.
Second one is a very young bit of white birch with acorns carved at the front and back of the handle.
Third is ash with a great natural L handle.
Fourth is maple.
Fifth is maple with the bark sanded down to the underbark.
Sixth is either cherry or alder (pretty sure it's alder, but can't remember for sure)
Seventh is ash and had roots which kind of looked like a lobster claw, so, being from Maine, that's what I decided to carve it to look like.
Eighth is elm and had a cool root system which I decided to experiment with (description with next pic)
Ninth is maple and it had a small hole in the root handle so I carved it out bigger and inset a small granite rock.
