So, while waiting for my first haul of sticks to dry and season, I'll be concentrating on finished canes. This is my first that I made for my dad. The shaft is red oak with a brass fritz style handle. The shaft is stained with Minwax oil stain with two coats of Formby's tung oil for the finish.

Thanks, I've always liked the grain of red oak. This was just a cheap dowel I got from Lowes. Can't wait to get some more exotic dowels from my suppliers.

Walker, the stain I used was Minwax Sedona Red. That's what gives it the actual color. I was a bit worried about the color because under the florescent lights in my shop the first coat had a pinkish hue. But I did three coats of stain for this finish color.
